Lestat, who was rather disspointed in the loss of the new friend, who just so happened to be Xue-Li, decided to go find her. He left Kayla and Artemis knowing that they would be easy to find agian, once he had completed the "capture the girl" mission. Dispite his title for the mission, he was really thinking quite innocently for once. After following her from a distance for far too long, he decided to make his usual dramatic entrance. With a large flock of birds, that he found in.... who knows where, he appeared at the top of the stair case. "Voila! C'est moi! Et le tres belle fille aussi!" Lestat chuckled at himself and then contenued. "Man you thought i was going to leave you alone, didnt you? Well i think you are too cute, so you are going to come get coffee with Kayla, Artemis, and myself." He glanced down at her bags for the first time, and at that moment he realized that there could be parishable items inside of them. "You should go put those away.... but once you go in there you might not come out agian. hm. Quite the predicament. I KNOW! I'll just have to go in there with you! Then i know you wont leave me here!" Lestat was rather satisfied with his plan, and began to reach for the door.

((Xue-Li: ARGH! WHY WON'T YOU PEOPLE STOP FOLLOWING ME? ARE YOU TRYING TO MAKE FUN OF MY ACCENT?!
XD Oh, by the way, zookie, I'm going with Lestat's scenario. Because apparently he didn't see your post either.))
The door swung open sharply before Lestat could turn the doorknob, nearly smacking Xue-Li in the face.
"What's all this about?" Xue-Li's grandmother said, scowling. Her English was thickly accented, but understandable nevertheless to an American. "Can't a poor old lady drink her tea without people yelling in the hallway?" She narrowed her small black eyes as she saw Lestat.
"And who is this, Xue-Li?" the grandmother asked suspiciously, switching to Chinese.
"Um..." Xue-Li looked down at the floor, wondering how to explain.
"You get away from my granddaughter right now, young man," Xue-Li's grandmother said to Lestat. Despite her short stature and wrinkled face, she actually looked quite threatening. Then again, she was Mei Xing, the tiny female whose abilities of clairvoyance were stronger than anyone else's in the Xing family.
Mei Xing opened her mouth continue, when suddenly a curtain of white flickered across her eyes. She staggered backward, leaving the door ajar, when the whiteness faded as unexpectedly as it had appeared. The old woman rubbed her eyes, then glared at Lestat. "You're a vampire, aren't you? I thought those didn't exist anymore."
((Clarification, so I don't have to explain later on: The Xing family is naturally endowed with clairvoyance. However, it runs weaker in Xue-Li's blood--she can only contact the other side through dreams, when the mind is most susceptible and able to pass through the barrier. Mei is the most strongly-gifted Xing alive, as she can receive psychic visions anytime, regardless of her conditions.
So...yes, she had a vision.))

(( Aww... ))
Kayla looked at Artemis, then towards where Xue-Li and Lestat had run off to. "Man, she'd REALLY gonna think he's a stalker now." she said. "I think i'll go to smooth things over. Prevent anyone from calling the police, that sort of thing."
So she followed Lestat and Xue-Li. And then, as she paused on the stairwell, realized she had no idea which floor the two were on. She went up a few floors and paused. If Lestat was nearby, maybe she would hear him talking...He was rather loud when he got excited.

Mei Xing switched back to Chinese, reprimanding her granddaughter harshly as she roughly pulled Xue-Li into the apartment. It was amazing how such a frail elderly woman could look so furious, how such kind features could twist into ones of pure rage.
Xue-Li, surprised at this latest revelation, almost dropped her groceries as she tumbled into the apartment. "Grandma--he didn't do anything--" she began in Chinese, but Mei did not listen.
"If I see you talking to Xue-Li again..." the old lady fumed, looking as if she could carry out any threat that came into her mind. "What are you still doing here? Leave!"

Instead of Lestat's voice, Kayla was surprised to hear someone else's raised to high levels. Aha...The next best thing.
As she approached, it was easier to hear what the other person- a woman's voice- was saying. And yes, there was Lestat, and the Asian girl from before, along with an older Chinese lady who was apparently the one doing the yelling.
"Ma'am?" Kayla asked, sliding into place at Lestat's side. She gave the lady her best shocked, wide-eyed look. "Is there a reason you're yelling at this man?"
Alright, so Lestat was not technically a man. But this lady didn't know that, and 'being' was such an impersonal word.

[[[psst! .... i'm not a male. o.o .... and now i'm gonna go look for your post, zookumms. ]]]
"OH MAN !! ..... you didnt see anything too graphic, did you?" Lestat's eyes widened as moved closer to the old woman and hoped to god that she saw, at least, one of his halfway decent moments. "Well....ummm.... I'm Lestat!" Lestat smiled warmly and tried to look as friendly as he could at this moment. "AND about your previous question. I am infact a vampire." Lestat snickered at the thought of just being 'a' vampire. "Actually... i am not 'a' vampire. I am The Vampire Lestat. I think i should be adressed more formally, than just 'a' vampire." Lestat ran his fingers through his bright blue hair and glared at her in a rather snobbish manner, forgetting his place. "How did you know that anyways?"

And before the lady could even answer, Kayla found her reply easily enough in Lestat's conversation. Heh. Was it really that obvious or what?

Artemis sighed and looked in the direction her two companions had taken. "I wonder if Kayla REALLY thinks that going with him is going to solve anything..." she muttered under her breath. "Might as well go get that coffee now." Artemis turned and walked a block, then sauntered into the coffee shop and ordered a grande Mocha (w/ wipped cream of course^^).

Xue-Li had grown up on fairytales. Her mother and her grandmother adored the short fantasy tales of emperors and demons. And then Xue-Li also liked the "American" version of fantasy, with its fairies and little elves and pixies. Nevertheless, she was still shocked at meeting a vampire in the flesh.
Mei Xing continued to glare at Lestat, barely sending a cursory glance in Kayla's direction. She answered the vampire's question with a sharp "It's not for you to know how I attain my knowledge." She backed into the apartment, her eyes never once leaving the two strangers.
Xue-Li was rather thankful her parents were still enveloped in their world of Beijing opera, which blared loudly from the TV in the small living room. Her mother might've reacted placidly and asked Lestat and Kayla in for a cup of tea, but her father would've gone all paranoid, grabbed his kwan-dao, and start slashing things to pieces. Not that kwan-dao were exactly legal either; most inhabitants of a large city usually didn't have ancient weapons that were used to fight all means of supernatural creatures.
Xue-Li set down the groceries at last with a thump. She considered getting her own kwan-dao, but her grandmother already seemed deep in a rant. It was amazing how much English Mei could dig up, seeing as how she barely seemed to be in contact with the America world.
But even if Lestat did try to attack--which Xue-Li sincerely doubted he would, though she wondered why--the apartment had been covered with wards that would effectively shield against any non-human creature. She could clearly remember the long tedious hours Mei had spent, swirling a calligraphy brush over the walls and doors and windows, then activating them with her aura.

Kayla blinked, unhappy at the way this discussion was turning out. Of course, to be a discussion it would have to involve equal conversation on everyone's part, so perhaps discussion wasn't the best word for it. But hey- Kayla could rant too.
"What are you doing, ignoring me like that?" she demanded, cutting into the other woman's tirade mid-stream. "You're being very very rude. You don't even know Lestat- you've just heard stories of his race. Do you really think all people are alike? And weren't vampires people originally? You're being biased as to something he can't do anything about. As a minority in America, you would understand these things, but is that stopping you from being judgemental and biased? Of course not, you're still being condemnatory. And how insulting, that you back away as though he's going to sling you over his arm and devour you here and now. You're an absolute shame to the ideals of man, and i won't believe you if you claim an ounce of good-will."
She paused for breath, briefly wondering how long she could keep going. Most of this she was making up on the fly- she was afraid she was repeating herself.

Lestat raised his hand to his mouth in a futile attempt to hide a giggle. "Man... .you guys are all so serious!" Lestat, who had uncomposed himself so he wouldnt come off as too much of an aristocrat, leaned nonchalantly agianst the wall next to the door, waithing for the argument to explode.
After a few bored moments, he began to talk to Xue-Li with his wicked telepathic powers. 'Are you bored? Man... i sure am. How about leaving and getting some coffee together?' Lestat smirked at her curiously. "SOOO.... Who wants coffee? I guess you can come too, Baba, but Xue-Li's my date! She has already agreed !" Lestat, who was quite aware that Xue-Li hadnt answered him yet, took her by the hand an proceeded to guide her back down the stairs.

Xue-Li looked extremely embarassed, yet didn't try to resist--not that it would help her much if she did. "Um..." she began uncertainly, then looked back over her shoulder at her practically steaming grandmother. Her gray eyes were nearly begging her grandmother to forgive her, and maybe shut up in the process.
Mei Xing had stepped back out, snarling at Xue-Li in Chinese. "Get back here, ungrateful child." When Xue-Li did not run obediently back to her like she had been trained, Mei whirled around and faced Kayla. However, her voice was severalfold calmer, as though she was repressing her anger.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know you knew so much about our family's history."
Sometimes it wasn't so hard to find out where Xue-Li had developed her sense of sarcasm.
Then Mei snapped the door shut as she turned on her heel and entered the apartment, glaring at her granddaughter. No doubt she was off to rant to Xue-Li's parents about her disobedience.
Xue-Li stared at the closed door for a moment, looking as if she was trying very hard not to cry. An awkward silence filled the air. When Xue-Li finally spoke, her voice sounded strangled and quiet. "Sorry."
((Chinese culture is big on obedience. You MUST obey your elders, whether the age difference is a month or sixty years. That's why it's such a big deal--not to mention that Xue-Li's disobedience wasn't a minor thing either.))

(( Yeah...I know....poor Xue-Li. ))
Kayla blinked at the closed door. Oh. I didn't get to finish. What a way to win an argument.
"Do you think she would be more forgiving if we told her that we drugged you?" Kayla asked, not entirely serious. "And that you were too out-of-it to understand what was going on? I mean, she already believes Lestat's a monster, and since i defended him i suppose i'm not any better."
She smiled at Xue-Li gently, already feeling guilty.

Lestat laughed as if nothing had happened. "Youre sorry? I'm the one that should be sorry! oh well... i'll explain it all to your parents later, but for the time being, lets go get our coffee!" Lestat smiled down at her, hoping that would have been of some comfort. "Or i could go talk to them now, if you prefer?" Surprisingly, Lestat waited for a reply this time, after realizing that she was rather upset over this whole predicament. "I could play the whole "monster sometimes" card, and say that the monster took over!! raaah!!!" Lestat waved his arms about madly as he attemted to be monster-like.

"I could also burst into tears, if you think that would help." Kayla offered. "Obviously, Lestat's taken control of my mind with his super-duper vampire powers and i don't know what i'm doing."

"And we can all run in apologizing our heads off!!" Lestat grinned. "We shall call it the 'ZOHMIBUDDHA Mission.' What do you think, Xue-Li? It is a master plan, right?"
