(( I"m going to be the bartender, 'cos...well, i wanna. Like Kayla's really gonna know 'A Wizard's Staff Has A Knob On The End.'))
The bartender eyed the newcomer with mild interest. "It's been a while since i last heard that one," he says, grabbing a glass. "Not since that old witch passed through. The short tubby one, mind."

"Mm, not much," the bartender said. "Quiet day. Demon over there." He inclined his head towards the cloaked figure with Kayla and Artemis, not looking up from where he was filling the glass. "You got money, right?"

Following the women up the stairs he silently slid his hand under his robes and nodded looking as he was reasurring himself that something was still there. They reached the room and they sat by a fire place. It was well lit and the Bartender must have recently started it. He pulled his hood down and reached his hands into his robes. The eyes of the women flashed, however, he muttered "Peace friend", drawing out a pipe. He lit it with a match he had under his sleeves and puffed a couple times.
The fire cast a wonderous glow on the people in the room. It gave the room a mysterious apperance while still giving it a homey feel. Smiling he said.
"You two must have many questions for me. I would appricate it if you let me talk first then you may inquire upon whatever you will. I have a lot to explain to you so I would appricate it if you did not interrupt me while I am speaking."

"Alright..." Artemis sat lightly on the edge of her bed, gesturing for Kayla to do the same. "I suppose I'm listening."

Kayla scowled at the drow, abruptly. "Go on, then," she said, sitting on the bed despite her sour expression.

The bartender slid the stranger's ale in front of him, one eye on the trio disappearing up the stairs. "No, i don't mind, as long as he behaves himself," he said eventually. "Looks like he's only here to pick up his friends."

And he began his tale....
"I guess Ill start from the beginning. When I was a lad I lived in a very wealthy home. My parents were very close to the leader of our people and we had a beautiful estate. When I was about ten of your age, my parents were assassinated by a group of people. I do not know their name or where they exist only that they are a group attempting to take down the great nations of our world. Many years later the group came back. They pillaged and destroyed many of the buildings in our city. We know not how they got into the capital nor how they accomplished so much destruction. Thats where I come in. I am apart of a secret organization who's soul purpose is to exterminate this group that has been attacking not only our nation, but all of the powerful countries in our realm.
Our organization is quite small. It used to be comprised of only about a score of people. Several moons ago I was assigned a mission to go investigate the mountains far to the north. Ten of our company came with us and only I survive. I must now either head back to my capital and report a failure, or recruit a couple people and continue on my quest to stop this organization from collapsing the world as we know it. I know we have just met but I beg of you to join my organization to attempt to take down this group and destabilize our realm. What say ye?"

"hm.... seems a bit...odd, for a demon to meet up with some human companions. well, " here nekro drains the flagon in one gulp, " i'm gonna go and check out what they are talking about, if that is alright with you?"

Artemis lowed her eyes in thought. "You've riskled a lot, telling us this. For all you know we could be a part of this group you say you're fighting. And no matter what you've completly blown your cover. What makes you so quick to trust us?"

Well I didn't really have a choice. I need to continue on my mission and it will be very difficult if not impossible for me to do this alone. I tell you all of this in order to gain your trust. I have lain all of my cards down on the table it is now up to you to decipher them. Also, if you were apart of the group that was following me it would have been a kill me now ask questions later. They always tend to travel in groups and would have attacked me in the middle of the tavern. Both of you were not together when I entered the tavern so I decided it was quite seldom that you were my enemy... at least those enemies...

"Yes, well, this is all very well and good..." Kayla began, "But i want to know more about this group you're hiding from. You say they've evil, etc., etc, but why? Surely they've got a motive for this- i doubt it's just wanton destruction. Or maybe it is, but if you've been watching them for a while then surel you can explain them in a bit more detail."
* * * *
"Pay first," the bartender said mildly, tapping the bar in front of him. "I've had more than one customer slip out a window rather than pay for their drinks. And then you can do all the investigating you want, as long as you don't damage anything."

"Thanks," said the bartender, barely glancing at the coin. "That'll do you for several more drinks as well, if you want them later."
